Overview
We integrated a leading multi-specialty hospital's clinical workflows with the AKHIL Systems EMR platform, enabling the seamless exchange of patient records, lab results, and clinical data across departments. This was one of our earliest healthcare deployments, and it set the pattern for how we have approached hospital systems ever since: integrate with what a hospital already runs, rather than force a disruptive rip-and-replace.
The Challenge
Hospitals run on several systems that rarely speak to one another. Patient data ends up in silos, staff re-enter the same information across departments, and clinical decisions are slowed by records that are fragmented across registration, the wards, the lab, and pharmacy. The client needed its clinical workflows connected to the AKHIL Systems EMR so that patient records, lab results, and orders could move between systems reliably and securely, without adding friction to already busy clinical teams.
Our Approach
- Integration first. We worked with the hospital's existing HIS and EMR estate rather than replacing it, so care delivery was never interrupted.
- HL7 interfaces. We built standards-based HL7 interfaces so patient, lab, and order data could be exchanged consistently between systems.
- Data migration. We migrated historical records into the EMR with validation, so clinicians started from a complete and trustworthy patient history.
- Clinical workflow mapping. We shaped the integration around real ward and OPD processes, not an idealised paper flow, so it fit how staff actually work.
- Reliability and security. We treated patient data with the reliability and safeguards it demands, so the exchange could be trusted for clinical use.
Outcomes
- Seamless exchange of patient records and lab results across departments.
- Less duplicate data entry and manual reconciliation for clinical and administrative staff.
- A unified patient record that clinicians can rely on at the point of care.
- A stable integration foundation that later supported further OPD, pharmacy, and clinical-AI work.
